TOSC Dates and Tides
Why the following dates and tides? Some anglers like early morning lows, some like early morning highs, some like big tides, some like small tides, some like medium tides, some like night fishing and some don't, etc. It's impossible to please everyone, so we have decided to go with the same time each year. Fishing will start at 6:00 p.m. on the second Wednesday in November.
Why November? There are no other major surf casting competitions on at that time. Many of the organising committee attend other events, from February to April and have not got the time to commit to a competition at that time. There's a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes and unfortunately there is no magic wand.
Why not finish on a Saturday or early Sunday? That would disadvantage a lot of our local fishermen and women, who can only fish the weekends. The TOSC was orginally set up for them to fish.
TidesThe approximate Port Taranaki tides have been included, in the hope they may be useful. They are not certified to be correct and should not be used for navigation. The author and the Taranaki Open Surfcasting Challenge organising committee assume no liability for damages arising from the use of these tidal predictions.
